  • To be a happy community school where all are proud to be

Our School Context

Hafod- Y- Wern Community Primary School enrols pupils from age 3 to 11. The school relocated to a new building, opened in May 2017 and serves the Caia Park community. The Caia Park estate is part of the Queensway and Caia Park wards. According to the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation, the Queensway ward of Caia Park community one of the 100 most deprived areas in Wales, the 5 wards that make up the Caia Park community, of which the school serves, are Cartrefle, Queensway, Smithfield, Whitegate and Wynnstay. Very few pupils, mainly within the resourced provision attend from outside the immediate catchment area. In Wrexham, 59% of young children in the area around Caia Park (‘Wrexham 010’) were living in income deprivation. This is substantially higher than the second-most deprived area in that local authority which had a deprivation rate of 35%. Three of the five LSOAs in Wrexham 010 were in the 10% most income deprived areas for young children in Wales, namely Queensway 1 and 2, and Wynnstay. There is close liaison with many outside agencies to tackle issues of social disadvantage.

In the academic year 2024-2025, 57.25% of pupils are eligible for FSM and a further 12% who have been entitled to free school meals in the last 12 months. Our ambition for our children is to ensure all learners receive the best care and education regardless of a pupil’s disadvantage(s) or barriers which are out of their control. Our ambition informs our ethos statement: Dream, Believe, Achieve.
